Sheehan Apology to Al-Queada?

I wrote this editorial for my college newspaper:
This past Thanksgiving, my grandparents brought to me a recent issue of Aramica, a non-sectarian, non-partisan, bilingual newspaper focusing on the issues, events, and people impacting the Arab American community which, in New York and New Jersey alone, numbers well over 350,000. Aramica maintains a good reputation, or so I thought, until I looked at the cover page and lo and behold, there was Cindy Sheehan.
Some people call this woman a media whore. I don't like this nor do I agree with this. However, ever since Hurricane Katrina knocked Cindy off page one, she's been popping up in a lot of new places, like alternate newspapers including Aramica and college campus, $5000 a speech. Relative to other speaker fees, $5000 is chum changes, but the point is that she doesn't exactly hate the publicity either.
Antoine Faisal, the main editor of Aramica interviewed Cindy Sheehan, in an article which lauds her as the "Gold Star Mother for Peace," named after the organization founded in the early 20th century. How wonderful. Actually the article isn't that bad until she starts to speak about what she would tell Iraqis and Arab Americans.
"If I met the mother of the person whose bullet killed my son, I would say I don't blame your son, your family or your country. I blame the administration for sending our children to invade and occupy a country that's not a threat to the United States."
She goes on to say "I ask forgiveness from all Iraqis, including the one who killed my son."
There's more. George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, Alberto Gonzalez and Donald Rumsfeld are also in Cindy's words, "torturers, liars and war criminals." But for the Al-Queada terrorists? For Al-Zarqawi and the insurgency? For Saddam Hussein? An apology.
OK, now I do not know what it's like to loose a son in war, believe me I haven't got a clue what she's going through emotionally. There is a mother-son bond that is there and we must respect that. I do, however, know enough about honoring some one's memory that I would never even consider apologizing to the murderer or for that matter, asking for forgiveness.
I am not in the crowd that arbitrarily bashes Sheehan, but after reading her interview in Aramica, I am definitely reaffirming my membership to the "Cindy Doesn't Speak For Me" crowd, especially at the end where she mentions her new plans.
The article concludes with Sheehan indicating that she wants to go Sadr City, Iraq to the spot where Casey Sheehan was killed. What does she hope to accomplish? She has a better chance of getting flowers and gifts from the insurgents than the coalition troops. But Cindy, if you're going there to "apologize" to Al-Zarqawi and his thugs, do us all a favor. Don't come back.
about iraq not being a threat to the U.S.. Saddam plotted to assassinate George H W Bush but that's not a threat. I guess it isn't to those who are consumed with a hate they don't understand themselves.
I'm truly sorry for the loss of your friends.
This comment is the most disgusting thing I've seen here.
a statement as disgusting as this was a ban-able offense. I am a Democrat who hasn't exactly been a fan of Ms. Sheehan since she has fallen in love with her own press releases, but this statement is definitely a new low for what I've seen over here. Can I get an editor ruling here?
The comment has been deleted. You're warned as well. Though I realize Sheehan raises hostile sentiment in those of us who actually like our country, the comment was unacceptable for this site.
of the left, attempting to assassinate a former or present Republican president is not a threat.
is the perfect poster girl for BDS.
She is blaming those whom her son volunteered to serve for his death while forgiving those killed him.
She gets rich lying about this country's evil as well as the good of those in Iraq she supports.
By this time in her devolution, if this was WWII, she would be locked up.
After the failed attempt to assassinate Bush41, Clinton bombed Saddam's intelligence headquarters. Saddam didn't try that again.
... and you're absolutely positively certain that he wouldn't have ever tried anything to p*ss off the United States again.
Oh wait, he did ...
What I find interesting is the amount of faith Democrats now proclaim to have in Saddam's rationality. Something they never claimed to have before. Now they all swear that they knew for a fact that he would never ever ever have considered getting together with terrorists against a common enemy like the United States all along.
Of course, if he were not sitting in a cell awaiting justice for using chemical weapons on his fellow Iraqis, setting up and unleashing rape squads, torturing and imprisoning children, inserting people into plastic shredders, using the bodies of conveniently deceased Iraqi people as landfill, (none of which speak well of his rationality), I wager they wouldn't be quite so confident.
However, Neil, if I may point out, trying to assasinate a US President in the first place may be a sign of irrationality.

If she goes to Sadr City, I hope she'll sign a waiver saying that if she gets taken hostage by the terrorists, American soldiers are not to come and try to rescue her.
